Ownership Feels Great!

Today, another major milestone was met and it's time to celebrate!  After all this time, the feeling of Ownership is something that can't be beat!  This is a goal I have been looking forward to for a very long time.  In October 2002 I was living and workin in Jackson Hole Wyoming at a small vacation rental company (Rendezvous Mountain Rentals).  Snow comes early in Jackson Hole, and that year it was piled deep around my front door, deck, and little Gold Honda Civic.  I woke up early to head to work - and jumped in the car.  Still groggy from the night before - and cursing the -30 below temperatures… Well - needless to say - the Honda never woke up that morning… and I was stranded without a car or a way to work. 

I called the office and told them I would be late, or may not be in at all.  After reaching a towing company that would pick up my car, and take me to town - I started to hunt down a new vehicle.  The choices are slim in Jackson Hole - maybe three total car dealerships.  On the other side of the pass - in Idaho Falls - I had more to choose from.  But that was two hours away over a steep, snow covered, mountain pass.  And the Big Woman who drove the Tow was not about to head to Idaho Falls that day.  The used car dealer let me stash the car on his lot - and we looked at a few cars.  I walked away with a 1998 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport!

Working and Saving for Five Years to make a huge monthly payment has been hard work.  When I was about to get married in April 2007 - I thought for certain the car was scheduled to be paid off in May… After calling GMAC I learned I was way off - the car still had another 5 months of payments… So - each month like clock work I made sure money was in the account, and watched as GMAC came to take it away.  Last night I realized what month it was - THIS IS OCTOBER!  In fact, it's October 2007 - Five Years since I signed the lease on the Subbie!  So I gathered up some paperwork, reviewed my records, waited patiently.  On October 25 the Online Bank Statement said GMAC had visited my account.  So - I picked up the phone!  A quick conversation with Elizabeth from GMAC confirmed the car was completely paid off!  The Subaru was Mine!  After all this time, the feeling of Ownership is something that can't be beat!
