Happy Halloween Everyone! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays - next to Christmas! - and believe it or not I still have no idea what I am going to be this year… How are your costume plans coming along?

October 31 - Halloween Night - is a special celebration for me and my family. For as long as I can remember, my brother and I would decorate the yard and try to scare the neighborhood kids with pranks and decorations! As I got older, the decorations became more elaborate until my brother and I were asked to head the Annual Delaware 4-H Haunted Trail each year … Wow! The scores of kiddies we’ve spooked and scared! It’s been a fabulously frightful good time.

When I was old enough to go out and party - my Halloween plans ( and costumes ) changed slightly. In college one year I was dressed head to toe in a toga! This was a great costume for a guy in a Fraternity - but not so good as the chilly October Fall air started to creep under the bed sheets… burr burr burr!!! But the all time ultimate costume was when I dressed as Stephen King's IT and terrorized people at the Snow King Resort Halloween Party in Jackson Hole Wyoming!

One of my favorite things to do on Halloween is bust out some Classic Horror films and sit back for a scary night in the dark living room - - wonder - - what that noise in the kitchen REALLY was… I’ll grab as many as I can from the local movie rental store and stock up on goodies. When you are too old to head out and trick-or-treat door-to-door - you improvise! And now, with my new NetFlix account I can have the DVDs sent right to my door JUST IN TIME for a murderous movie festival! Some of the chart toppers include Freddy Krueger’s Nightmare on Elm Street Series, Jason Vorhee’s Friday the 13th, or maybe Stephen King’s IT, and of course … what Halloween would be complete without Ray Bradbury’s The Halloween Tree? It’s a classic!

You can drive around the dark and haunted country, or head deep into downtown and find spooky hangouts this time of year. Haunted Houses, Hayrides, Forests, Corn Mazes , and other attractions add to the Halloween feel. There are tons that I would like to visit and check out - but most are very far away from my home base. The great part about haunted attractions is that there is always a local fire company, or non-profit organization in your area setting up a spooky trail to scare up a few extra donations each Fall. Get out and support the local haunted trails this year - and if you want even more excitement - visit some of the big scary attractions at haunted theme parks or commercial haunted houses across the United States.

But Halloween is about more than just getting scared senseless! Halloween is also about Getting Tons of Goodies - FOR FREE!
