My Muse is Back! The muse is found in ancient Greek mythology. The muses are a sisterhood of goddesses or spirits, their number set at nine by Classical times, who embody the arts and inspire the creation process with their graces through remembered and improvised song and stage, writing, traditional music and dance. This is where we get words like Music! You can read more about the Muse here…
Anyhow - Jessica and I dug out the old Nintendo (not Super NES, not Nintendo 64…) last night. The OLD 8-bit graphics, and RF Converter. Look those terms up if you don't know what I mean! This is old school - full tilt. Anyhow - we played a few games and I felt it kick in… The same understanding and grasp of technology and graphics that washed over me as a boy came flooding back. My Muse was hard at work motivating me to move forward with my current projects. And it was music to my ears as I began to see different ways of using the same theme to accomplish vastly different goals.
Right now I am working on four site designs at once:
Judy Whalen's It Starts With Us site,
Lon Kieffer's A.W.E.S.O.M.E. Speaking site,
Jessica & Anna's Learn To Stamp site,
and from time to time the Eastern Shore Liquid Health site.
All of the sites have one thing in common - the same base template. Each one reaches a little further into my creative pool to attract visitors attention, and solicit the response I desire. That's the trick to Website Design for Marketing purposes. Of course you begin with a Goal in mind. "How many site visitor to sales conversions do I want?" "Will I create X amount of new Volunteers this month?" "What volume of sales must I reach this week, month, year from the site alone?" Many different goals for each and every site that exists on the web.
The trick is getting a Wandering Visitor to become a Committed Customer. Ask yourself what Action the visitor must take to move into the desired Goal. Then - wrap that action in a pleasant experience - a welcoming graphic - a easy to locate button - and your golden! Seriously! Goal - Action - Presentation … It's all in the presentation. Otherwise, why is Book Cover Design a multi-million dollar per year industry? A Book is judged by it's cover - and a website is judged by it's presentation.
